The future of the church of England

I'm glad to see that our Vicars in training still have a sense of humour. Ridley G staircase

All in all a jolly good weekend

Annual Barn weekend - this time in the New Forest, was good as ever. Chatting, walking, sharing food, playing some games and sleeping (but not a lot). Time well spent. Here are a few pics:

Personal but not too personal

Reading Anna and Lucy’s thoughts on the Facebook vs Blog discussion has got me thinking about why I haven’t blogged for a while.
I think I have enjoyed the personal but not too personal element of Facebook, verses the deeper personal disclosure of Blogging. There’s just too much effort required on all fronts in the world of Blogs and I’ve opted for the simplicity and shallowness of Facebook instead. Does this mean that I have become shallow? Perhaps, but let me try to explain.

The last month or so has been pretty pants in my neck of the woods. Who in all honesty actually wants to read about that? What could I write about that that is worth anyone else reading? Surely it would just be self-absorbed dirge to anyone but me – stuff to put in a personal journal but not an online one. Why would anyone want to hear me whining on my Blog? Why should I inflict this on people?

Also, when you’re feeling tired and fed-up it’s just too much effort to write something that sounds good enough to put on your Blog. It’s much easier to put a comment on Facebook saying ‘(name) is fed-up’ or ‘(name) is very tired’ and leave it at that. These kind of things in the Facebook world don’t require a response – your friends can read it and move on, or at the most put a comment on your ‘wall’ which says ‘hope you feel better soon’. You’re not asking for any advice or any concern, you’re just saying ‘things are a bit crap, but there we go’.

Can anyone else relate to this or am I talking rubbish?

The end of blogging?

Has Facebook really brought about the death of blogging?

hmph

Tried to organise a fun morning of cleaning the church this morning with the extra incentive of 'home-made by trainee vicar's wife' cake at the end. Could be quite a fun morning I thought, bunch of people doing a bit of weeding and a bit of mopping and dusting with some music and some chatting and some tasty cake at the end.

Fellow bloggers can you guess how many keen and committed people turned up besides myself?

Trying to work out if I went about advertising it really badly, whether people just don't want to muck in and clean the church they worship in every week or whether people are just to darn busy or too flippin lazy.

Ah well, Hannah and I ate a lot of cake.

and relax....

Really enjoying a slower pace of life at the moment as many things have stopped for the summer. It's so nice to have a chance to catch up on things that I haven't had a chance to do for ages, to have some evenings at home watching TV and some more time and space for going out and doing fun social things. Am also counting down the days until we go off on holiday - not long to go now. Ahhhhh.
